How to search the Thai FDA database

The Thai FDA’s medicine register is public but mostly in Thai. Here is how to search it and read the results.

1. Open the register

Go to the Thai FDA medicine product search (ระบบค้นหาข้อมูลผลิตภัณฑ์ยา). It works best on a desktop browser. The Thai FDA recommends Chrome, Firefox or Edge, with pop-ups allowed for the detail pages.

It only covers modern medicines

The page notes that it covers modern medicine registrations only (เฉพาะทะเบียนตำรับยาแผนปัจจุบัน). Narcotic and psychotropic medicines are recorded separately. See controlled medicines below.

2. Choose how to search

Fill in one of the four boxes, then press ค้นหา (Search):

3. Read the results

Status values

4. Decode the registration number

Thai registration numbers follow a pattern. Take 1C 15023/63 (NB) (OZEMPIC 0.25 MG):

The same strength can appear twice with different suffixes, e.g. (NB) and (NBC), when a product has moved from conditional to full registration.

5. Open the product record

Select รายละเอียด to open the bilingual Public Pharmaceutical Regulatory Information page. It shows the approval date, the validity date (วันที่หมดอายุ), dose form, legal class and more. On DrugsThailand, every registration number in a product table links straight to this official page.

Controlled medicines

To check narcotic or psychotropic medicines such as methylphenidate:

  1. Use the Thai FDA Permit for Traveller “Check the drug” tool to see the substance’s category.
  2. Use the Thai FDA search centre. Choose สืบค้นแยกรายผลิตภัณฑ์ (search by product type), tick ยาเสพติด (narcotics), and enter the ingredient. Results include import permits and product certificates, as well as lab reference standards, which are not medicines.

A note on accuracy

The register says its results are for preliminary checking. For legal reference, contact the Thai FDA Drug Control Division. The Thai FDA also asks users to report problems with the search to Drug-SmartHelp@fda.moph.go.th.

Common questions

Why can’t I find Ritalin on the Thai FDA register?

Controlled medicines such as methylphenidate are not on the ordinary medicine register. Their supply is recorded by the Narcotics Control Division instead. Search them in the Thai FDA search centre with the “ยาเสพติด” option, or check our medicine pages.

Is a Thai FDA registration number the same as an “อย.” number?

People often say “อย. number” for any Thai FDA number. For medicines, the number to check is the drug registration number (เลขทะเบียนตำรับยา), for example 1C 15023/63 (NB). It is printed on the pack and appears in the register.
